Frequently Asked Questions
- What should I do first when my ATM card is lost or compromised?
Block the card immediately through the bank's customer care number printed on the back of the card / on the bank's official website, net banking or mobile app, and report fraud at 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in if money was taken; the written application is for the bank's record and a new card.
- Can a blocked ATM card be unblocked if found later?
No. For security reasons, once a debit card is permanently hotlisted or blocked due to loss, it cannot be unblocked; a new replacement card must be issued.
- Will my bank account still work while the ATM card is blocked?
Yes. Only the debit card is blocked. You can continue withdrawing cash at branch counters, using net banking, or executing branch transactions.
- Is there a charge for blocking an ATM card?
Blocking a card is completely free. However, issuance of a replacement debit card may attract a nominal charge as per the bank tariff.
- What is the liability for transactions done before reporting card loss?
Under RBI limited customer liability guidelines, zero liability applies if fraud is reported within three working days where bank security failure is involved, and third-party breach is reported without delay.
